Fire Island Pines Invasion

Each Fourth of July weekend, the Pines is "invaded" by a ferry full of drag queens from Cherry Grove. It is the largest event on Fire Island and draws people from all around. The whole tradition started when some drag queens from Cherry Grove were denied service in the Pines. They came back with friends and made sure they got noticed. Since then, the "invasion" is a great way for people to dress up and celebrate our diversity.
